NBA FIRST ROUND REVIEW

The NBA’s real season begins today. Forget the trials and tribulations of the last 6 months. The ups, downs, highs, and lows of the NBA regular season mean almost nothing now. A distant memory. 16 teams remain, and at the end, just as in Highlander, there can be only one. The fans in Philly salivating at potential redemption with the additions of Jimmy Butler and Tobias Harris. The Nuggets faithful riding high as their team moved from outside the playoff picture looking in last year to the 2 seed in the west. Orlando fans thinking their team may have a…

MEGABUCKS IS HOW MUCH?! LETS PLAY THE LOTTERY

No, not that kind of lottery. The NBA lottery. With the NBA season wrapping up, just a handful of games remain for each team, and the NCAA Tourney narrowing down to its Final Four its prime time to take a look at some potential lottery picks. As of today a couple of picks will be changing hands as the King’s selection will head east to Boston, and the Maverick’s pick will convey to Atlanta to finish off the Trae Young for Luka Doncic swap of last June. If you’ve even walked by a television that could possibly receive a signal…

POST TRADE DEADLINE POWER RANKINGS

The deadline came and went, and the Pelicans didn’t give up Anthony Davis for lent. So I guess its time to party Mardi Gras style in New Orleans. Some stars stayed (Mike Conley), and some stars went (Marc Gasol), but overall it was pretty grizzlie out there for anyone looking for a star. I noted 23 trades this week ( NBA TRADELINE FESTIVITIES ) with the vast majority being salary dumps, or efforts to thwart the tax line. Some big names were moved. Tobias Harris, Marc Gasol, Nikola Mirotic to name a few. We’re now about to enter into the buy…

NBA TRADELINE FESTIVITIES

W Well, the first shoe dropped earlier this week when Anthony Davis decided he wanted to give up New Orleans for Lent. The second shoe dropped in the form of a Woj bomb when news broke on Thursday that the New York Knickerbockers basketball club was trading their lone star, the injured Kristaps Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks. As the trade deadline is now just a week away (February 7th), we’ll be monitoring and discussing the various trades as they come down. So check back between now and the end of next week to review the comings and goings…

NBA TRADING AT ITS FINEST

The NBA trade season is revving up. The deadline for trades this year falls on February 7th, just a few days after the Superbowl, and 10 days before the NBA’s All Star game. We’ve already seen some big trades this fall. Jimmy Butler to Philly for Dario Saric and Robert Covington. Kelly Oubre to Phoenix for Trevor Ariza. Or George Hill to Milwaukee for John Henson and Matthew Dellavedova jump to mind. In past years it was a forgone conclusion that the Cavaliers and Warriors would meet in the finals (allright, maybe not forgone, I mean the conference finals each…

NBA FUTURE FAMERS

Let me look into my crystal ball. The year is 2032. Tom Brady is president of the United States. Gronk is the Secretary of Spring Break. Keith Richards has gone solo and is the top earning tour in the country. Maggie Simpson is finally talking, and gas is up to $325 a gallon. Basketball enthusiasts will look back on the 2018-2019 NBA season with awe as a slew of hall of famers litter the rosters of NBA teams. As we look at the NBA in modern times though, circa December 2018, who is looking like they’ll take up residence in…

YOU’RE DUCKING RIGHT WE’RE GONNA DO NBA FANTASY

That’s right, we’re going to start a fantasy NBA league. Using the Yahoo fantasy sports platform, we’re looking to have at least a 10 team league. This will be a $50 fee league, with fees collected via paypal or check, and all fees will go towards the prize pool. Once we have a final count on the number of teams, we’ll publish the payout amounts. Draft is a live online format, currently scheduled for Monday night, October 15th. 6 PM (PST) so plan on doing the draft while watching the MNF game (its the 49ers at the Packers for what…

NBA POWER RANKINGS PRE 1.0

With the vast majority of the off season heavy lifting done, its time to take stock of how it looks as though the NBA power structure is put together. There is no change at the top overall as the Warriors have done nothing to come back to the pack. In the East though, the Raptors have added a very well rested Kawhi Leonard, while losing DeMar DeRozan, amongst others. The 76ers lost a lot of the veteran leadership they acquired last year, but have gained another year of experience. And in Boston the Celtics return Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward…

13 HOURS INTO FREE AGENCY

Aaaahhhh, the advantages of living on the west coast. When the clock struck midnight on the east coast, all hell broke loose in the NBA. While die hard fans back east struggled to stay up, looking to catch every Woj bomb, I was relaxing on my couch with my computer and dog. So far we’re looking at 5/9 on the free agent predictions. Granted the 5 that we hit on are lay ups, you’ve got to take the gim’mes when they present themselves. We didn’t see Ariza to the Suns at all. Barton re-upping with the Nuggets was always a…

FANTASTIC FREE AGENT FEEDING FRENZY FORECAST

The magic date now behind us saw overpaid role players like Garrett Temple and Enes Kanter  opt into their player option deals, while all stars like Lebron James, Paul George, and DeAndre Jordan have opted to test the free agent waters. The result allows us to now view the free agent buffet as it truly will be when the frenzy starts mere hours from now at midnight when the calendar turns to July. This summer will be the year of the haves and have nots. You’ll see a handful of players receive max contract money, guys like Lebron James, Kevin…
